Types of crypto trading bots, and how to choose one
Trading bot platforms look alike from the outside. Underneath they are very different tools. Knowing the type tells you how much work it needs and what can go wrong.
The main types
| Type | What it does | You need to | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grid bot | Buys low and sells high inside a range | Pick the range and grid size | Sideways markets |
| DCA bot | Buys on a schedule or on drops | Set amounts and limits | Long term builders |
| Signal bot | Trades on alerts from indicators or charts | Build or buy the signals | Experienced traders |
| Copy trading | Mirrors another trader | Choose who to follow | People who trust a leader |
| Arbitrage bot | Trades price gaps between markets | Capital on several venues | Professionals |
| Managed autopilot | Runs one tested rule set for you | Connect and set risk | Busy people, beginners |
Builder platforms and managed bots
Most well known platforms are builders. They give you grid, DCA and signal tools and you design the strategy. That is powerful if you know what you want, and overwhelming if you do not.
A managed bot makes the strategy decisions for you and exposes a few safe settings. You give up flexibility and get something you can leave running. Treo is this second kind.
Six things to check on any platform
- Custody. Your funds should stay in your own exchange account.
- Key permissions. Trading only, withdrawals off, locked to an IP address.
- Spot or futures. Futures bots use leverage and can be liquidated.
- How losses are handled. Stop loss, hold, or average down. Know which before you start.
- A real record. Live results, with the method explained, beat backtests and screenshots.
- Exit. You should be able to stop and keep everything in place.

Where Treo fits
Treo is a managed autopilot for spot. It buys near support, trails a profit lock upward, and never sells at a loss on its own, which means positions can wait underwater. It connects to Binance today with a trade only key, and it runs separate agents for crypto and US stocks (beta), with forex and commodities under the same Core.
If you want to design your own grids and signals, a builder platform will suit you better. If you want rules you can read in a minute and then leave alone, that is what Treo is for.
Questions
Are free trading bots any good?
Some are. Judge a bot by custody, key permissions and how it handles losses, not by price.
Is copy trading safer than a bot?
Not by itself. You take on the risk of the person you copy, and past results do not carry forward.
Which type needs the least attention?
DCA and managed autopilot bots. Grids and signal bots need regular tuning.
