Are trading bots safe? What to check before you connect one
A trading bot is safe only if it cannot move your money out. Here is the checklist we would use on any bot, and how Treo answers each point.
The checklist for any trading bot
- Does it hold your money? If you must deposit funds with the bot, walk away.
- Can its key withdraw? A bot only needs permission to read and to trade.
- Is the key locked to an IP address? Then a stolen key is useless anywhere else.
- Can you cut access yourself? You should never need the bot's permission to leave.
- Does it promise returns? Guaranteed profit is the clearest sign of a scam.
How Treo answers each one
Non custodial
Your funds stay in your own exchange account. Treo never receives or holds them.
Withdrawals off
The key can place trades only. Treo checks every key and rejects any that can withdraw.
IP locked
Your key works only from Treo's server address, which you set on the exchange yourself.
Encrypted
Your secret is encrypted when stored and is never shown again, not even to you.
Revoke anytime
Delete the key on your exchange and Treo loses all access at once.
No promises
Treo does not guarantee profit. Trades it closes itself are closed in profit, and open positions can be red.
What can still go wrong
A trade only key cannot steal your coins, but it can trade them. The real risks are market risk and strategy risk: prices can fall after a buy, and Treo holds instead of selling at a loss, so money can wait underwater. Software can also have bugs, and exchanges can have outages.
Use money you will not need soon, start small, and read the Terms and Risk Disclosure.
Signs of a scam bot
- It asks you to send funds to its wallet or to a person.
- It asks for withdrawal permission or your exchange password.
- It shows fixed daily or monthly returns.
- It pays you for recruiting other people.
Treo does none of these.
Questions
Can Treo withdraw my money?
No. The key you connect has withdrawals turned off, and Treo refuses keys that have them on.
What if Treo's server were hacked?
An attacker would find encrypted secrets for keys that cannot withdraw and only work from Treo's own IP address. You can also delete your key on the exchange at any time.
Do you see my exchange password?
No. You sign in to Treo with Google and connect the exchange with an API key. Treo never asks for your exchange login.
Is Treo regulated or financial advice?
Treo is software you operate on your own account. It is not a broker, a fund or financial advice, and you are responsible for following the rules where you live.
